What should we wear?
Not surprisingly, this question comes up very often. You want to look good, and I want to make you look good. More than that I want you to feel good.1. Be comfortable. Be you.
The very first thing I would suggest to you is to pick out clothes that let you be yourselves. Having your picture taken doesn’t often feel natural and comfortable to most people: when I have my picture taken, I know I feel a little awkward. I don’t want clothes to add to that feeling.2. Where's the bump?
If we are documenting your pregnancy, I encourage you to wear clothing that is comfortable, easy to move in, and will highlight your belly if you wrap your hands around it. Avoid busy patterns. I will often-times ask you to be sitting: be it on benches, tree stumps, rocks, or even the ground. Please wear clothing that would make this easier.3. Leave the white to your sparkling smile.
No, I won't stop you from wearing your favorite white shirt or dress, but white can be a bit challenging to work with, especially for outdoor shoots.4. Let’s party like its 1999!
Rather… let’s not. You remember the colorful print, poofy pants of the early 90s? If you owned a pair, are you trying to forget? I want to give you a photograph that will make you smile not only tomorrow, but in 10 years. Also one that won’t make your family snort at your fashion choice. To help with this, please pick clothing that avoids loud prints and patterns.5. I wish I was taller
Please avoid shorts, and pants that end short of the ankle. Unfortunately the shorter cut of pants also cuts inches off your height. If wearing a dress, choose one that does not gather at the waistline. In addition to making you appear taller, this style will help you look slimmer. Skirts are fine, but avoid pairing with a shirt that tucks in.6. Things that make you go "Hmmmm"
Please wear tightly woven shirts, sweaters and dresses. If you have an article of clothing that isn’t, it can appear see-through in a photograph. If you have a shirt or dress you think is questionable in this regard, feel free to put a slip or under-shirt as a layer below.Ladies, please also be conscientious of low-cut blouses and dresses. Dudes, let’s leave the extra tight pants, or short shorts for a different type of session too.
7. Is that a wallet in your pocket?
Gentlemen, we know you like to carry the world in your pockets, but to avoid bizarre-looking bulges, please empty your pockets before we begin.8. I see London, I see France
Little girls look super cute in dresses. I wouldn't ever discourage you from having them wear a dress. But please consider what should be underneath the dress. Toddlers have little modesty for themselves, and if you are concerned about their undies showing up in the photo, please consider bloomers that will match the color/pattern of the dress, or light-weight tights.9. Can we match?
If you want everyone in the shoot to wear the same thing, that's OK. You might prefer to have clothing that complements each other, rather than copies.10. Can we bring multiple outfits?
Sure, but please let me know, so we can plan ahead for time.What should I bring to our session?
If possible, please bring some (small) toys that your little ones like from home. This will bring them comfort, and will help me get their attention if they decide to give my camera lens the cold shoulder.Feel free to bring food appropriate for the kids. Our session will likely take about an hour, maybe hour an a half. Kids might get hungry, and having something to snack on would be great. Treats makes little ones happy, and also serve as great bribing tools for the bigger ones.
If you have small children, please bring a spare change of clothes. While, more than likely, we won't use it, there's the occasional diaper blow-out, or dusty trip. Don't rely on the spare outfit in the diaper bag.
