It was about a bit over a year ago that M reached out to me. She was just getting her photography studio off the ground and was looking to connect with other Peninsula-based photographers. We setup a time to meet in Redwood City in the middle of a week-day, my work got jumbled up and I flaked on her. Hard! I felt terrible. I called her a full hour later apologizing profusely for the jerk that I was. She gave me a second chance, because she’s cool like that! As we got to know each other, M shared a dream with me that she and her husband had always wanted to put down roots and run a small family farm.[…]See more from “San Francisco Family Photographer: Back to the beginning”

While I spend most of my waking hours working in San Francisco, I don’t get a chance to photograph in the city often. When my husband and I lived there, we also stayed pretty faithful to our neighborhood, and thus stayed within a comfortable walking distance to SOMA. In summary, while I have a large catalog of locations to offer up on the Peninsula, my recommended spots for family portrait photography in San Francisco are…. let’s say, quite lacking. This is where friends come in. Seriously! I am beyond grateful to be part of a supportive and vibrant community of women photographers. When these guys asked for a spot in the Presidio, my friends obliged with a few recommendations including[…]See more from “San Francisco Family Photographer: At the Spire”

San Francisco Family Photographer: Plan B

Remember how this family photographer was just saying that I was surprised how long it’s been since she’d photographed a family session on the beach? Well, I had not one, but actually two planned back. My second family shoot was to be in the city at Crissy Field, with the Golden Gate Bridge being a symbolic background. I drove to the spot we were to meet earlier in the week (since I hadn’t been there in years, I wanted to get re-acquainted with what I had to work with). It seemed like a fun place and I was excited to do it. And then our session day came, and clearly the wind had very different plans for us. You see,[…]See more from “San Francisco Family Photographer: Plan B”

I’ve had the privilege of knowing these guys for, wow, 10 years now! J and I used to work together back at Yahoo!, and we carpooled to/from work and San Francisco for awhile. Although age has likely mellowed him out (has it, J?), back in those days, he could get us from Sunnyvale to the city in dead-stopped traffic in 25 minutes. Yeah, a bit of a speed driver, but it was fun. To return the adrenaline favor I introduced him to skydiving. Well, P and J have were joined by little X a year and a half ago, and this little man is such a smiley kid. He may have mommy’s routine-oriented personality, but he definitely has his daddy’s[…]See more from “San Francisco, CA Bay Area Child & Family Photographer: A smiley little dude”

It is so awesome when I get a chance to incorporate something from a family’s life into their portraits. It’s one of the reasons I truly enjoy photographing people at their home. This little dude is named after Bob Dillon. His dad plays him lullabies on his guitars, and when the family gets together, there’s an instant reunion band. Of course, the little guy is already a fan, because when Daddy plays he quiets down. I’m a little jealous I don’t have these magic powers to be honest — to be that captivating in the blink of an eye.Have a great first year ahead of you, Little Man!
