Bay Area Photographer: (Professional) Freak-out

Ok, picture this: a woman, walking alone in the dark, through an open field, with a flash-light, frantically searching the ground for something lost. Yep! That was me. And I lived one of my professional photographer fears that evening: losing my client’s photos. I had an awesome, fun, incredible family portrait session with these guys. I’ll get into this more shortly. Apparently the “fun” didn’t end when I drove away from Los Altos’ Hidden Villa. No! On a hunch, I decided to pull over, and account for the cards I had used during that evening’s appointment. During a regular portrait session, I usually shoot through one card, and start-up a second. My second was safely in my camera still. But[…]See more from “Bay Area Photographer: (Professional) Freak-out”

Bay Area Family Photography: Warmth

We had a such beautiful morning on this October day: it’s one of the best parts about living in the Bay Area, don’t you think? October is one of my favorite months because the weather is just so perfect. Yes, I am jealous about the beautiful colors that families outside of California get in their fall, but our temperatures in the 80’s, beautiful blue skies, wearing short-sleeved blouses in late autumn are nothing to complain about either. It makes family photography fun because we have so many options in terms of locations, clothing, and moods. The summer before last, I photographed this little girl, as a newborn at her home. She had such big, sparkly eyes then: they were just[…]See more from “Bay Area Family Photography: Warmth”

Bay Area Family Photography: Biggest fans

These two are some of the biggest Bay Area sports fans I know. They love the Giants and the 49ers with open hearts. Last year when I photographed their family we had planned to do at least one family portrait in their sports jerseys. We had a blast of a session, and time ran out before we got to it. I kicked myself for awhile afterward, so this year I swore I wouldn’t let that happen again… and we started with the sports gear. This mini session was my last of the day at the San Jose City College campus. It rained so hard that morning: even my first session of the day got rained out, so we hid under[…]See more from “Bay Area Family Photography: Biggest fans”

I hope these past 12 months have been fun for you getting to know me and my family a little bit more. December for us is about the holidays. When I grew up, we didn’t celebrate Christmas. Living in a communist country, in a family and friends that didn’t embrace religion, for us it was about celebrating New Years. There was still a jolly Santa figure (although his name was loosely translated as Grandpa Frost) that delivered gifts to the wee bits of the land. In our family today, although we still aren’t practicing in any religion, we do celebrate Christmas.I’ve been on a mission NOT to lie to my kids about Santa Claus. I can go on about this[…]See more from “Bay Area Photographer: December In My Corner of the World”

When our oldest turned three we celebrated with a family trip to Disneyland. Well, the month of November greets us with a birthday for a little dude, who this year is now three as well. So guess where we went? And guess what pictures I’m sharing with you of my November? Yep – house of mouse šŸ™‚ I look back on our trip in a much different light than actually being there. A bit like being in labor I suppose. It felt a lot more fun in retrospect. But boy was it memorable. What made it memorable you say? Lesse: 1) my husband brought an unwanted guest on our trip: the stomach flu. He fell to the germ our first[…]See more from “Bay Area Photographer: November In My Corner of the World”
