One of the benefits to being on this side of the camera when it comes to newborn photography, is the ability to witness all the different kinds of family rituals that parents fall into. For me, with my family, it was bath-time. There was a song order as we scrubbed head to toe, and even though it was never a big production it was a ritual that was meaningful and memorable. D and S have their own ritual around A’s wake-ups from her nap, and it was a pleasure to be able to witness (and document) that. Babies! The first half of my year is always about photographing and welcoming little ones into our world. I quite like it to be honest. It gives me a sense of starting over. When little Q was born, I remember C calling me to say that they were surprised how cute he was and really wanted to capture that. Beautiful Miss M had her babies. After all the anticipation, and the fake-outs these little dudes gave us, they lasted all the way until their due date. I am thrilled to have been part of their welcoming comitee! In the hospital, as the nurse was doing the intake questionaire, she asked “How do you think your lifestyle is going to change?” …. on a scale of 1-10. M and A already have H at home. And they were about to hold their twin boys. Twins on their own are a major adjustment, let alone with an active 2 yr old to boot. I can’t believe it’s already been over a month since E was born! Man time flies. He already looks so different from the day he came into the world. I can’t wait to see what he’ll look like in just a few months. Will he have his big brother’s dimples? Will he have his mom’s brown eyes (like she hopes)? As our own boys grow, it’s easy to forget life with a newborn. I forget just how little and light they are. Feathers in comparison to the 30+ pounders that ask me to pick them up. Foster City, CA Newborn Photographer: Contrasts

A month ago, these guys braved one of our wettest storms, and we still met for N’s maternity session. There were snuggles, belly rubs, and an awesome ending jumping in some huge puddles in the end. I got home that day and ordered myself a pair of Hunter Rain boots because I wanted some of that puddle jumping fun for my home too. Well, N’s belly passenger has arrived. Little R was two weeks old when we met for his newborn portraits. He was alert for part of our meeting and asleep for another. He even gave his daddy a nice grin while he was asleep.
